Pre-admission Testing
The week prior to your procedure, you will need to go the hospital for pre-admission testing and education.
The testing may include lab work, X-rays, EKG, or other examinations. This process may take one or two hours. Your testing has been scheduled for a specific time, so please arrive at the proper time to avoid unnecessary waiting. Please bring with you:
- All of your medications in their original bottles
- Medical insurance cards
- List of any allergies
- Any questions you may have
Before Your Procedure or Surgery
Check with your physician regarding all of your current medications. Some medications, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (i.e. Motrin, Aleve, Nuprin), and iron, need to be stopped up to a week prior to your procedure. Some, such as insulin and coumadin, may require dose adjustments prior to the procedure. It is very important to check with and follow your physician’s instructions.
- Notify your physician should you have a cold, infection, fever or illness of any kind prior to your procedure.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to your procedure.
- Wear comfortable clothing.
Inform your physician and the nursing personnel should you have any allergies or are taking any regular medications, vitamins or herbal supplements.
Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Do not bring valuables, credit cards or money with you.
Arrange for transportation as you will not be allowed to drive yourself home.
Your financial obligation copayment ordeductable can be met by cash, check or credit card.
What to Expect
You will be taken to a pre-operative room to be prepared for your procedure. Following your procedure, you will go to a recovery area. When you are sufficiently recovered, you will be taken to your room.
Please arrive on time!

When discharged, It is important that you do not drive home alone. Please arrange to have someone drive you home after your procedure, or the procedure will be cancelled.
Your family and friends are welcome to stay in our surgical waiting area.
After Your Procedure or Surgery
The recovery period varies according to the individual patient and the type of procedure performed. Your physician and nurse will determine when it is safe for you to be discharged.
The effects of anesthesia will prevent you from driving, operating machinery, or making any legal, binding contracts or decisions for at least 24 hours after discharge.
